How Students use Social Media and Networks in a Learning Context at the Virtual University of Cote d'Ivoire (UVCI)

Abstract

This exploratory study aims to understand the extent to which students integrate learning dimensions into their social media and network practices. To this end, we conducted a survey of a sample of 603 students from the Virtual University of Cote d'Ivoire (UVCI), using an online questionnaire. The results show that for the most part, students use social networks and media including WhatsApp, Google and YouTube to search for resources related to course content and as collaborative workspaces focusing on understanding educational content and collective work. Of these applications, WhatsApp is the one most used and preferred by students.
