The Status of Awareness About Climate Change and Environmental Conservation Among Higher Education Students in Mogadishu City, Somalia

This study aimed to determine the status of higher education students’ awareness about Climate Change and Environmental Conservation. The research was quantitative and used survey questionnaire for data collection. The participants were 350 higher education students selected purposively from 5 universities in Mogadishu, Somalia. The study employed a correlational design and found that there is a positive moderate relationship (r = 0.567) between students’ Status of Awareness (SAW) and Climate Change and Environmental Conservation (CCaEC). The work also used regression analysis to determine how the independent variable affects the dependent variable, and the output was R2 = 0.322. The hypothesis testing revealed that Students’ Awareness of climate change significantly impacted environmental conservation (p-value = 0.000). The Commission for Higher Education in Somalia should therefore develop an environmental protection plan, according to the researchers' recommendations. This approach will not be implemented until people's awareness in the field of education is raised. By implementing the research's suggestions, it is hoped that the findings of this study will increase higher education institutions' involvement in environmental preservation to protect the Somalia’s fragile degraded environmental resources. Lecturers' Adoption of E-Learning from the TAM Perspective: Transitioning from Lecture Halls to Virtual Classrooms

Considering the post-COVID-19 pandemic, this study investigates how faculty members in higher education in Somalia are handling the shift from traditional classroom instruction to e-learning. The study looks at how factors like perceived usefulness (PU), attitude (ATT), behavioural intention (BI), and actual usage (AU) impact lecturers' acceptance of e-learning through the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). A descriptive and cross-sectional design was used in the investigation. The information was gathered by surveying three hundred and seventy-five (375) lecturers from seven different Mogadishu universities. The study used a non-random, purposive sample. The results of the study showed that most of the factors influencing lecturers' adaptation to e-learning were significant, except for three exogenous variables: Perceived Teaching Self-Efficacy (PTSE), institutional support for lecturers (ISL), and digital tool access (DTA). These variables did not significantly impact perceived usefulness (PU), as their p-values were higher than 0.05.On the other hand, all the other hypotheses had p-values lower than 0.05, which means that the lecturers in the Benadir region, Somalia, were satisfied with the e-learning adaptation. To investigate the hypotheses of e-learning and digital resource adoption, the study used SPSS 26.0 and SmartPLS-4's Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Based on the findings, the researchers advised instructors to receive technology and pedagogy training and institutions to fund infrastructure development. © 2024, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University. Influence of career awareness on STEM career interests among foundation-year students in Mogadishu, Somalia

This study investigates the influence of career awareness on STEM career interests among Foundation-year students in Mogadishu, Somalia. By examining self-efficacy, outcome expectations, and academic performance as mediating factors, the research provides new insights into the complex relationships that shape students' aspirations in STEM fields. Data were collected through a survey of 321 students across four private and public universities and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling in R-Programming to ensure rigorous evaluation of validity and reliability. The findings reveal that self-efficacy plays a pivotal role in motivating students to pursue STEM careers. At the same time, positive outcome expectations and academic achievements further reinforce their interest in STEM pathways. Although the direct relationship between STEM career awareness and career interests was not statistically significant, the results emphasize the importance of fostering self-belief among students. This study contributes to the understanding of the multifaceted factors influencing STEM career interests and offers practical strategies to enhance self-efficacy, positive outcome expectations, and academic excellence. These findings can inform the development of interventions aimed at inspiring and empowering students in their pursuit of STEM careers.

A bibliometric analysis of sustainable digital transformation in developing countries' higher education

The integration of digital technologies in higher education has revolutionized educational experiences, processes, and pedagogical methods, particularly in developing countries. Additionally, sustainability in education has become a critical focus, aligning with global efforts to promote sustainable development. This study conducts a comprehensive bibliometric analysis to investigate research trends and patterns in sustainable digital transformation (SDT) within higher education in the context of developing countries from 1991 to 2024. Employing the SCOPUS database, the analysis reveals a significant increase in publications on this topic, highlighting a growing scholarly interest. Key themes identified include digital transformation, innovation, sustainability, and technology-enhanced learning environments. Influential sources and journals contributing to this field are identified, with the Journal of Educational Technology & Society being the most cited. Collaboration networks among researchers are analyzed, showcasing the interconnectedness and interdisciplinary nature of this research area. Thematic evolution mapping indicates a shift from addressing challenges and barriers to exploring opportunities and benefits of digital transformation. The findings underscore the need for tailored approaches to address the unique socio-economic and cultural challenges faced by developing countries. This study fills a gap in the literature by providing a comprehensive overview of how SDT is being explored and implemented in higher education institutions in developing countries, offering insights into future research directions and practical implications for sustainable development in this sector.
