Indiscipline Among Senior Secondary School Students: The Contributions of Home Behaviour Control and Religiosity; [Недисциплинированность среди учащихся старших классов средней школы: роль домашнего контроля поведения и религиозности]

by Abang, Kingsley Bekom

The study investigated the indiscipline of senior secondary school students and the contribution of home behaviour control and religiosity in Cross River State, Nigeria. An ex-post facto research design was adopted for the study. The population comprised 62,501 senior secondary school students in three educational zones. A multistage sampling procedure was adopted to select 1250 students from 30 randomly sampled public and private secondary schools. The Student Opinion Questionnaire (SOQ) was used for data collection. Experts in measurement and evaluation and educational psychology validated the instrument. The test-retest reliability coefficient ranged from 0,78—0,91. The data collected were analysed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results revealed that home behaviour control and home religiosity significantly influenced secondary school students’ indiscipline behaviour. Specifically, students from firm homes and with high levels of religiosity generally exhibited lower indiscipline behaviour across all the dimensions. In comparison, those from lax homes and homes with low levels of religiosity manifested higher levels of indiscipline behaviour. These findings align with role theory, which suggests that individuals’ behaviour is shaped by their immediate social environment. Policymakers can use these results to develop programs that promote positive behaviour by encouraging the development of a strong religious foundation in the home and promoting clear expectations and rules for behaviour. © 2024 Moscow State University of Psychology and Education. Integrating digital libraries into distance education: A review of models, roles, and strategies

by Christopher M. OWUSU-ANSAH

This study examines ongoing efforts by academic libraries to integrate digital resources into distance education courses. The study adopts a conceptual approach and it is thematically focused on the concepts of distance education and digital libraries; academic library models in distance education; the role of digital libraries in distance education; and strategies for integrating digital libraries into distance education. Through a systematic literature review and thematic analysis of extant literature, the paper concludes that academic libraries must pragmatically integrate digital libraries into the distance education curriculum by highlighting the role of digital libraries in the academic community and her processes. In this way, digital libraries may not be perceived as just content providers, but as significant agents of transformative learning. © 2019, Anadolu Universitesi.

Considerations on the evolution of the teaching professionalization process in the angolan university context

by Cristina Lembe Simba Teixeira de Oliveira

This article describes the evolution of the teaching professionalization process in the Angolan university context. To this end, the following methods and techniques were used: historicallogical, documentary analysis, and observation. With the use of the methods and techniques referred to, three essential stages of the evolution of the teaching professionalization process in the Angolan university context were determined. The first stage refers to the process of prioritized attention for the development of the higher education subsystem. The second stage refers to the establishment, by the Angolan Government, of collaboration protocols with a significant number of countries and universities of international prestige, aimed at training and qualifying of staff that the country needs for its development. The third stage is based on the elaboration and implementation of actions leading to the improvement of the teaching professionalization process in the Angolan university context. The results obtained indicate that the process of teacher professionalization in the Angolan university context should base its pillars on the articulation of the substantive processes of the contemporary university: teaching, research, university extension, management, and internationalization.

Cultivating noise and silence using drama in the classroom: notes from an action research project in Zimbabwe

by Chipo Jean Marunda-Piki

This article presents an action research analysis of data collected from lessons conducted in my own class. The action research investigated how the dynamics of noise and silence can be enforced using dramatic approaches. Research in the area of drama integration in teaching and learning often aims to improve learner's knowledge acquisition. However, there is little research in this area in Zimbabwe and the conceptualisation of Drama as a classroom management strategy remains limited. I examined how drama approaches can find space within the more traditional noise management methods and elicit positive learning behaviour. © 2019, © 2019 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.
